Basic Security Training

What’s the course schedule?
Our next Basic Security Training course runs approximately every 2-3 months. It typically runs on one of the two schedules, for a duration of two weeks:

Weekend Schedule 1:
Fridays 5:00PM – 9:00PM Saturdays & Sundays 8:30AM – 5:00PM

Weekday Schedule 2:

Mondays to Fridays 5:00PM – 9:00PM

What is a Security Worker’s License?

In order to work in a security-related career in BC, you must obtain a BC Security Worker’s License from the Justice Institute of BC. The BST Training Program is a 40-hour course required by the Justice Institute before obtaining a Security Worker’s License. Once you have successfully passed the course, you will be required to include a clean criminal record check, fingerprinting, and your BST certificate in your license application. (The fees for criminal records, fingerprinting, and security licensing are not included in our course fees.)

Types of Employment
Your BC Security Worker’s License opens the doors to many security-related positions, such as security guards (including volunteers), bodyguards, in-house security, loss-prevention officers, door guards at a licensed liquor establishment, locksmiths, private investigators, security alarm installers, security consultants, armored car guards, and hospital maintenance workers.

About the Program

Prerequisites
  • Confirmation of mature student status (19 years of age or older on the first day of classes) OR provide evidence of Grade 12 completion or equivalent
  • Meeting with a Program Coordinator
  • English competency assessment may be required
  • Canadian citizenship, landed immigrant status or permanent residency is required to apply for a security workers license
Assessment
  • Successful program completion requires a mark of not less than 60%
  • Students must complete a total of 40 hours of training, and pass their Exam to earn their certificate.
  • Graduates of the program qualify to receive their security worker license through the Justice Institute of BC upon successfully passing the licensing exam and a criminal record check

Refund Policy

If a student enrolled in a part-time course provides written notification of their withdrawals 24 hours or more prior to start, the college will give a full refund on training fees, or a credit for future use (as determined by the college).

If a student enrolled in part-time courses, provides written notification of their withdrawal less than 24 hours before the course starts, the college may retain the entire course fees.
